Date: 19990131 From: Avista Design Systems To: EE Professor Subject: Updated circuit design software FREE SOFTWARE DOWNLOAD NOW UPDATED ------------------------------------ If you had problems with a previous download, please try the new one! There were two system file dependencies that left SpiceLink BROKEN for many users. These problems have been fixed! If you don't know about SpiceLink, read on... ------------------------------------ FACULTY / STUDENT DISCOUNTS ------------------------------------ New circuit design software you may find useful. Created by Paul Tuinenga, the author of "SPICE--A Guide to Circuit Simulation and Analysis Using PSpice" and co-founder of MicroSim. While SPICE is widely available and successful, it is *not* an easy tool for engineers and students to simply pick up and use. Paul’s new company, Avista Design Systems, is changing that. SpiceLink for Visio (http://www.avista.com/SpiceLink) lets you instantly see nonlinear operation and results such as power dissipation and hybrid-pi values. Just draw your circuit, it's that simple! The SPICE algorithms and models are built into this tool, and it is designed to be foolproof. It knows the standard component values. It highlights connection errors. It organizes component identifiers. It provides a professional schematic, with the simulation results right where they should be. It even writes a SPICE netlist for your "ready to run" circuit. Design aids should make engineering easier. Circuit simulation cannot replace education, training or experience, but should be a useful aid to clarify design concepts, catch glaring errors and be a testbed for improvements. After all, no amount of careful layout and soldering can fix a bad design. ------------------------------------- FACULTY PROGRAM ------------------------------------- SpiceLink is available now. Instead of passively offering a simple discount program, Avista wants to develop a partnership with education for better EE design tools. We are asking for your support. For US$20 you can join this partnership. You will receive a personal license to SpiceLink (normally US$79, in case you were wondering), and it will qualify your students and lab personnel for their discount. We will provide you with feedback Avista receives on design aids, developments and useful news. We want your comments on extending these tools to support your design courses. Sign up today! Simply use the on-line FACULTY order form for SpiceLink: 1) Visit http://www.avista.com/SpiceLink and download the software. 2) Follow the "Academic programs" link to obtain your license. 3) Fill out the Faculty Order Form; remember to enter the Web address for your faculty Web page or the department page with your listing. If you don't already have Visio, read the "Academic programs" page for information on getting FREE Visio licenses for your classrooms. ------------------------------------- STUDENT DISCOUNT ------------------------------------- When a faculty member joins, their students and lab personnel qualify for a 50% discount off the normal price for individual licenses. Be sure to tell your students and staff. It's easy! Simply use the on-line STUDENT order form for SpiceLink: 1) Visit http://www.avista.com/SpiceLink and download the software. 2) Follow the "Academic programs" link to obtain your license. 3) Fill out the Student Order Form; remember to enter the Web address of the qualifying faculty member's Web page, or their e-mail address, to get the discount. ------------------------------------- A NOTE FROM PAUL ------------------------------------- While I am proud to be a developer of PSpice, I think more could be done to make SPICE a "ready to use" tool. For Avista, SpiceLink is just the beginning. Your questions and comments are always welcome.
